Remembering

Jane Bailey 1964 (California)

How can I help you today,

When nothing seems to make any sense,

How can I explain what’s happening,

When I don’t understand myself.

Watching you forget a simple daily task right before my eyes, you can no longer mask.

Knowing our conversations will only be one-sided.

Trying to separate myself from daughter to caregiver,
Extremely overwhelmed and beside myself,

watching the decline of your once Vigorous health.

Knowing it’s almost sun downer time, learning that’s what it’s called when night falls,

The endless moments of arguing, correcting, crying,

Things you learn, what NOT to do in this new world we are living in, I call the Twilight zone.

You can’t fight a disease of a deteriorating mind, no matter how hard you try there isn’t enough time to keep up with the ever-changing symptoms,

Some days, it’s hard not to play the victim,

remembering the person you knew, is now no longer there, can leave you confused.

Learning how to keep you safe, knowing you need the proper Care, somedays are hard to bare.

How scary this must have been for you, losing one self, not knowing what to do,  the real victim is you.

Did I mention she had what they call Dementia.
Mom I Prayed for your healing, no matter what that meant and now you are free from this cruel horrible disease. May you Rest In Peace.
