Nights

Niharika 2001 (Varanasi, UP)

I lay there, looking up at the pitch black room
Thinking of the ways I can reach the moon
I sigh, knowing I have a long way to go
But do I have that courage to do so?
I feel my fears racing through my eyes
But still unable to reach the skies
I see my hands reaching my face
Trying to keep those voices in lace
Those cries are not for you to hear
It's for me to bear
I reach for the sheet
To indulge me in sleep
I hear my breath, being steady
Telling me, I am ready
I still lay there, closing my eyes in the pitch black room
Thinking of the ways I can escape the moon.

About this poem

I wrote this poem because I want to know if there are people out there, who have similar nights like mine, which isn't peaceful but rather a part of my day which is just less glossier than my afternoons.
