I See You

Your Maths teacher does always say,
"Children, you ought not sit idle. Come on pick up your pens and start solving. The answers will come by themselves!"
I bet he has been giving you life lessons all along,
For this not only applied for the sums casting spells,
But also for your souls when losing strength.

In this tyranny of life,
You often end up in places you don't know,
But all that is needed is you walking through the path.
Alert! This trek will be a tough row to hoe,
Often pulling out sweat of blood and tears;
But tell me what fun would it be,
Had the tortoise won the race so easily?
After all, your proudest achievements often come
In the faces of the greatest adversity.

I see you crying under the miseries of yesterday,
Spending sleepless nights and restless days for the ones who called you worthless.
But better the sooner you realise, my dear,
That its only you and yourself,
That matters in the end.
Recharge yourself and run the rest;
And remember the days you thought you wouldn't survive but had survived
On the days you think you can't survive.

I see you growing avid over the kid on the internet,
Who is making millions for her intellect.
But here's a fact for you, my dear:
While you drool over her lavish days,
Her dream is to live your days grey.
That is how Happiness is a Problem.

I see you believe when Oprah says
That everyone is special,
But do you not wonder if everyone had been special,
How would anyone be special?
Entitlement closes in upon itself
Like a narcissistic bubble;
It is not happiness but just another high,
That tosses your problems up in the sky.
And when it comes back down,
You get hit so hard
As if struck by a dart.

I see you striving to attain perfection,
And then fall headlong
When every time your work ends up screaming correction.
I pray you to believe, my dear,
That no one ever is perfectly right;
You ought not get obsessed with being "right",
As I fear, you might end up never living your life.
I assure you, your "soon" will one day be replaced by "finally";
You just gotta try and fail,
But never fail to try.
But never fail to try.

About this poem

This is Sahina Sultana, a ninth grader and am 15 years old. Owing to the pressure of academics, I barely get time to write and read books(other than those "never-ever loved" textbooks). I have always had a gag for writing, although I could never frame perfect tales or poems of fantasies as such. As of this poem, 'I See You', this is my first ever properly written poem and that too within a span of two days(I take it as some kind of achievement to be honest). It is a lyric poem where man's inner-self has been personified and can be seen telling things which are otherwise neglected by the man himself.

Sahina Sultana

This is Sahina Sultana, a ninth grader and am 15 years old. I am basically a book-worm and consequently a typical topper. Hustle is my form of satisfaction although I seem to hate it at times. I still haven't figured out my "dream job", but whatever it would be, I love getting recognized. more…
