I hear the sounds of weeping and wailing

I hear the sounds of wailing and weeping
I hear the sounds of groaning and moaning every morning
Women in trouble, deep, double trouble
Where? When? Why? And how? You ask
This is the story of a sister, mother, daughter and grandmother
Reaching, screaming and kicking out for help
I hear the tortured, troubled sounds of crying and dying
I hear the pain, rain and drain of abuse

Victims grabbed, raped and trapped calling out for help
I tell you - there is a story to tell, yes! A sad, sorrowful story to tell
I hear her cries and tries of escape from the abuser
Aaaaaaaaaaah! I hear the sounds of silence strengthening the sadness
Again and again, I hear the sounds of the abuser taking advantage
Of the innocent, vulnerable, weak women out there
Trust has been torn into pieces, tiny tiniest pieces
Closest male relative slowly but surely turning into the monster
The male monster mercilessly mauling my mum

The predator picking up the defenseless, powerless prey without pity
Like a vicious lion pouncing on the poor springbok
I hear the sounds of the girl child giving up home
South Africa, this is our story- the story of women in pains
South Africa, this is our journey- the journey of women in trains
Fast-moving trains tumbling down to drown their victims
Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!! How I feel the agony and anguish
Aaaaaah! How I need to kneel and heal my beloved nation in prayer

I hear the terrible sounds of a mum who's lost a daughter
I hear the terrible sounds of a dad who's lost a wife
And I hear the terrible sounds of children who've lost a mum
The list goes on and on beloved South Africa, on and on it goes!!!
Rise up South Africa, rise up please and be the game changer
Be the change you want to see, the change you want to seal
Bang bang!!! I hear the sounds of gunshots ringing in the night
I picture the frightened faces of the mum and daughter
Trying to hide, fight and find strength against an abusive dad

I picture the battered, broken bones of the baby girl
I hear the blows beating badly on the tender skin of the woman
I hear the lies of the abuser repeatedly fooling the victims
Every time believed, every time swallowed whole
Believed by the brave bold breadwinner
Too scared to report, too traumatized to dare speak the truth
Wishing to protect her child, her pride and drive in life
Little does she know that the cycle of abuse continues
Each time more serious than the previous day
Each time more deadly than before- oh yes, more deadly than before!

Oh I sympathize with the women and children of today
I sympathize with the daughters, mothers and grandmothers
I hear the sounds of this big question- is it too late????
To break the silence, to break the violence, and give the guidance
Is it too late to stop the bang bang against our women?
Is it too late to stop the tides and rides of abuse on our brides??
I dare you South Africa, to sober up, stand and sing a new song
A new song that says, "Our women, our assets, our pride"
#BIG NO TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
