Breaking my Wall

You climbed miles over the wall that I built to protect myself. I begged you not too.
You walked for hours through the desert of my trauma I endured by those I’ve loved most. You didn’t stop for a drink.
You walked for days through the forest of my humiliation and insecurities. I thought you would laugh,  you didn’t even smile.
You walked for weeks near the cliff I clung to for so long, the one I’ve longed to jump from to end everything. You didn’t turn away.
You walked for years through the bog that held all of my hopes, dreams and broken promises. You didn’t stop for a breath.  
You walked and walked and walked until you reached me. I expected pity in your eyes and I couldn’t look at you. I couldn’t glimps yet another dream that was going to end like all the rest. You reached for me, and I summoned all the courage I had left and opened my eyes. You held my gaze, and all I  could see was love.  At that moment, my heart opened and I let you in without a second thought. I  felt alive; unbound and unafraid.
Together we knocked down my wall. I cried while you held me. I could feel your warm breath on my neck while your fingers played with my hair. I shed one final tear for the pain of my past, and together we began to collect the bricks.
The bricks I once used to hide my pain laid in front of me. They no longer made me feel weak and alone. Seeing them on the floor, cracked, chipped and covered in a thin layer of dust, gave me a sense of freedom I had never felt; and together, we made them into something beautiful. We laid them down; no longer to hold anything at bay, but to pave the way for our future
