Beasts of the night

A man could easily find a beast
At the main square,
In the name of revolution,
He yields
“I found the monster
Be aware, but not afraid
I will end him -
This madness of a raid
Oh people, sleep
His chains only I would grip
Only I have slayed
Be beheaded! I ask of justice
He's been keeping me awake.”

One laughed, the other, louder
One grasped, but the weight on his shoulder,
no one carried
The silence he buried,
nobody gloried.

“Here is the monster,
The devil knows also”
He says once more
“The ill-witted creature
be him -” say no more.

I was too, the monster
Perhaps even now also
The ill is behind the eye
Somewhere in a smothered heart.
The chimney of a lie,
You set up to the fire.
He told you not to play

But here you are with desire
And a breath shut down.
Unwilling to stay
But do stay,
Because the monsters are not always
As cold and as shy
But also untold, just passing by.
Stay, they have only you

A man could easily find,
But amending the beast,
Can only you.
