Am Afraid of Who I Will Be

Cathy Uwizy 2004 (Kampala)

Am Afraid of Who I Will Be
Until my blood is sucked, and my bones are smashed to ash for me to drag my corpse to hell, I will stand to clean my own blood
My life seems to be soaked in dirty water
Am afraid of who I will be
Am afraid of the dark figure that pops to my mind
Am afraid to sleep
Am afraid am getting crazy of this enigmatic situation
Am afraid of who I will be because
Living a luxurious  life as a prostitute is worse than living as a beggar
Am afraid of who I will be
Am afraid of facing my friends, am afraid of facing my own blood
Am afraid of who I will be
Am afraid of falling in love
Am afraid of that guy who will break my heart into pieces
Am afraid of the big boys who put on tight pants
Am afraid of the magnificent tone they use
Am afraid I may go wrong
Am afraid that one day I will regret what is invisible
Am afraid that I won't run away from my regrets
Am afraid my confidence will disappear
Then I will have nothing holding my toe
Am afraid if am caught I will have nothing to explain
For my sins can't even float on dirty water
Maybe one day I will be able to say am sorry then the priest will ask God to forgive me
And I will stand and say hello to the pure girls who were once my close friends
If life tolerates my dirty past and judge the at most good of me for am afraid of being punished by own shadow
Am afraid I can't clean my trash
