Alive (pt1)

Thinama Mzongwana 2003 (Eastern Cape)

"You can't be alive,
unless you've died
But you can die
If  you were once alive"
These words ring in my head
Time and time again
Ah yes!time,I envy it sometimes
It does not die either is it alive

But i had to die to be alive
It took me a long time to realise
That I  needed to be  revived
From a spiritual and emotional death
That tied the life I thought I had

I didn't mean to steal time
But  I  had to take time
To heal
I had to take time to breath
I had to take time to be alive
It seemed to be the only key

Options from my head flee
I couldn't be free
I tried to scream but noone was near
My screams noone could hear
And so with time I did plead

I had to die to be alive
It took me time to realise
That I needed to be revived
From a spiritual and emotional death
That tied the life I thought I had

About this poem

It is about a realisation that I had to die spiritually, mentally and emotionally in order for me to be alive ,and all this took time
