A CLARION CALL

JONATHAN EIDANGBE 1981 (Ibadan)

A clarion call
For Patriots, with rallying haste
A match adorn with no frail
Carved by dedication and selflessness
To our motherland and pride!

Its a rallying call
To hoist our identity
Not towards ruin, I recalled
For this is our tale
A narration of guide into epic drop.

As comrades, into troops
Under "the sun and in the rain"
"To defend our unity", was the hack
Unhinged, we matched against tides
But fell like tattered banner.

Like mammoth, in numbers
We peeled nature's strength
And unearth its milk, as plunders
For aggrandizement and accolades
We enlisted lust and sacrilage.

An epoch of melancholy
Lamentation from enslaved ambitions
Of visions, taunted and maimed
By our choices and their promises
What a call! with paths of regrets and shame.
