Sing me a song _ of pleasurable days gone by; of huckleberry bushes; a whiff of honeysuckle stems; a song of the rolling hills we loved to climb.  

Sing me a song _ of a city bustling with tradition and black pride.

Sing me a song _ of harbor lights dancing about horizons. Where the big vessels of mysterious names lay cruise;  there chromes glittering in the setting sun.

Sing me a song _ of billowing streams, see to sky,  and of valiant dreams, come real, come nigh.   

Sing me a song _ of snowflakes on the brook, sun breaking, voices muted and far away;  

Sing me a song _ of dandelions settling in green pastures, unweeding, and for a long time keeping.   

Sing me a song _of a mountain’s rise in desert oasis and the choicest cupped hands around black faces.
