Monarch Butterflies in the Sky

MONARCHS IN THE SKY

I came upon a Monarch flying in the sky
as I walked along fields of fennel
many more would appear and arise
From the leaves of Staghorn Sumac
and the petals of the Ocean Rose

As I continued my morning stroll.
Among the orange hued Monarch butterflies
I roamed this familiar trail with wonder
And a newly discovered childlike glow
cascading and radiating in my eye’s

So peacefully did they flutter that I paused and slowed my pace
To observe their ominous presence and witness
their vibrant and gentle energy and grace
As they continued their journey I experienced
pure amazement and joy

Watching them as they hovered near
and then quickly disappeared
I was among the gently wings of  monarch butterflies
As they begin their migration
Leaving New Englander’s anxiously awaking their return flight
