De- Pre- Scribe

Jeffrey Powell 1979 (Pittsburgh, PA)

Flummoxed by the numb fits
I get while off the clock
It's not to my advantage all this damage and the shock

Confounded by the chemicals
-not truly fit to take
saddened by a movement
not fit to decide my fate

Hopeful for a freedom
a potential without "reigns"
seeking out a paradigm shift
no longer poisoning brains

About this poem

The conundrum of modern psychiatry, as often, the patient just seeks a new 'normal.'

Jeffrey Powell

A bit of an introvert, Jeffrey enjoys using words and poetry as an outlet for expressing his thoughts and feelings. He tends to play by his own rules and darts in and out of the civilized world, as avoiding the conventional gathering is more his style. Jeffrey lives with his fraternal twin whom he enjoys sharing a laugh with at the opportune time. more…

I've always said that Psychiatry is about as exact a science as knitting a sweater with string cheese. When the end result is prescription medication, then it makes me question any methodology prior to. Did we really require 188 sessions and three years of chatter to dwindle us down to Xanax? LoL!

This is a fantastic piece, brother. Absolutely loved it.

Glad you liked it. I write about this particular topic and viewpoint quite frequently, I just wonder how many more are out there who're fed up with a 'medical' field that's essentially tampering with us more than the reasons we seek it out for. I'm to the point I consider it snake oil for what it's worth.

I avoid doctor like the plague. If life or death, then maybe, but I have a family that is overly medicated. Mom and Dad both were highly medicated and now both dead. I take no meds and plan to keep it that way. We are lab rats.

I believe the word you were trying to use is "reins" as "reigns" is totally nonsensical. The last lines are all over the place, no coherency there at all.

i purposely used 'reigns' instead of 'reins' because i meant dominance or widespread influence (as in medicine [big pharma] is the major player) but thanks for the comment

Nicely written. Let's hope together for the future of mental health.

Thank you and thanks for reading. There indeed are effective and promising alternatives which need to make their way into the mainstream.
