Gone but not forgotten

The brightest candle may burn out
but the warmth it gave stays strong,
The powerful thread may finally break
but its support will still prolong

The soul may leave its mortal body
but the lives it touched still thrive,
The finite time may now be spent
but its impression stays alive

About this poem

Reflecting on the recent death of Queen Elizabeth II and hearing about the effect she had on many people made me think about the lasting impact that any individual we care about can have on our lives even when they are gone. I therefore wrote this poem in an attempt to encapsulate this.

This is so nicely written, the cadence works. It is a soothing sentiment within a sadness.
