Another Sleepless night

Shelly Thompson Mears 1966 (United States)

The house is quiet, peaceful, and still
As I sit by a lamp to write
Trying to make sense of all that goes on
Victim of another sleepless night.

My mind is running in circles
Each thought competing with the next
Yesterday, today, tomorrow, next week
All play a part in stealing my rest

Did I forget to do this
Will I remember to do that
Will I get everything done
With my sanity intact

All of these questions and so many more
Run like a river through my mind
Tossing, turning, watching the clock
Minutes turn to hours, taking their time

Help me Lord to speak to these thoughts
As you once spoke to the storm
Peace be still throughout the night
Sweet dreams until the morn

Shelly Thompson Mears

I am a very private person and very few people even know that I write poetry. It is my way of releasing emotions. Every poem I write is inspired by situations in my life, whether good or bad. Writing is my therapy, and gets me through tragedy, triumph, pain, healing, sadness, and joy. I'm thankful for the gift of putting thoughts onto pages, that I can return to when I need them. more…
