History will scrutinize the royal legacy
And criticism across the land shall splay
And some will spew words of rancor and venom
For colonialism can never repay
Some shall dwell in painful memories
Of deferring to a royal foreign Queen
While struggling daily to make ends meet
Thinking how unkind, how unfeeling, how mean!
Yet still a lofty life well lived
Well loved by the masses and throng
Her intention in life was of purest motivation
But best intentions can often go wrong
To support and love her British nation
No cruelty ever touched her soul
Her heart remained loving and pure
But still colonialism took its toll
Do we soil the spirit of Elizabeth the Queen
Should we cast aspersions in her death?
Or should we revel in a life lived long and well
And praise her with every loving breath
It’s just not so simple or maybe it is
For just flesh and blood in life she would remain
And late at night just she alone
Did feel the collective pain
A Queen can’t always reflect emotions
That dwell so deep within
Emotions that cut to the very core
Of where history has already been
Of things she just could never change
Nor things she could not erase
But a legacy of devotion she leaves us
A life seasoned with love we embrace
May peace reign now and forever
Dear Elizabeth we thank you for your love and your never-ending grace
