YOU SEE ME

YOU SEE ME
WHEN NO ONE ELSE DOES
YOU SEE ME
MY TRUELOVES
WHEN I AM SMILING ON THE OUTSIDE
BUT SCREAMING ON THE INSIDE
THROUGH MY EYES
YOU SEE THE PAIN I HIDE
YOU SEE ME
WHEN NO ONE ELSE DOES
YOU SEE ME
MY TRUELOVES
WHEN I GET SO EXHAUSTED
AND EMOTIONALLY DESTROYED
YOU SEE HOW I SLOW DOWN
YOU SEE IT BEFORE THE SILLY SMILE
TURNS INTO A FROWN
YOU SEE ME
WHEN NO ONE ELSE DOES
YOU SEE ME
MY TRUELOVES
YOU SEE THE PAIN I HIDE
AND THE TEARS I CRY DEEP INSIDE
WHEN I TELL EVERYONE
IM OKAY. IM FINE
ONLY YOU KNOW THAT I LIED
YOU SEE ME
WHEN NO ONE ELSE DOES
YOU SEE ME
MY TRUELOVES
EVERYONE CAN BE SO BLIND
IT'S OKAY. I DON'T MIND
NO ONE ELSE CAN SEE
THEY THINK IM DOING GREAT
NEVER MIND ALL THE PAIN
I JUST ATE
YOU SEE ME
WHEN NO ONE ELSE DOES
YOU SEE ME
MY TRUELOVES
THEY'RE TOO BUSY
TO REALLY STOP AND TAKE A LOOK
THEY'RE OWN EYES LIKE A CLOUDY BROOK
FINALLY THEY REALIZE
IT WAS A FROWN
THEY MISTOOK
YOU SEE ME
WHEN NO ONE ELSE DOES
YOU SEE ME
MY TRUELOVES

About this poem

I wrote this poem in the middle of the night for my husband. I have suffered from acute fibromyalgia for 12 years and have recently been diagnosed with stage metastatic cancer. He is the only person who knows when I’m hurting and hiding my pain. No one else notices because they simply don’t want to see it.
