The Carriage Ride

‘Twas a beautiful day for a carriage ride.
Romance hovered sweetly in air.
My beautiful belle was close by my side.
My world holding nary a care.

A sunrise afresh, newborn rays they did pour,
Is how our morning was started.
When up went his tail with a thunderous roar,
And a smell not for the faint hearted.

Our eyes began burning, glazed over then teared.
Our steed has lost some horse power.
Even though brief, it was the worst thing I’d feared.
The morning air so quickly soured.

The morning had turned to a waking nightmare.
This can’t be the mane attraction.
The ringing of ears and the scent we can’t bear
From this equine’s walking infraction.

In the wink of an eye, on a wing and a prayer
In his contrail we quickly departed.
Far be it from me to be a neigh sayer,
But this horse must be named Hoof Hearted.
