STILLNESS IS THE KEY TO ALL THE DOORS

Brian 1997 (Brooklyn)

Perhaps what we're seeking is with us,
Inside of us,
In our soul,
And spirit.

Maybe what we desire is inside our hearts,
We just need to reach it,
Stretch out,
And claim it.

We spend so much time,
On the outside,
On things that don't fulfill us.
Sacrificing so much of our energy,
To things that leave us feeling more miserable.

Accomplishments,
Success,
Money,
Fame,
Yet we never truly become satisfied.

We never find peace within those things,
Perhaps we need to change our mindset,
Not to say we should not strive for those things,
But we should not let them dictate or define what life is.

Or we'll keep drowning in big empires,
With so much money and cars,
And Women,
Or Men,
Having everything we ever wanted.

But missing one key thing,
That being peace and stillness,
Equanimity and tranquility,
We should seek these before anything else.

Or else,
We'll forever be doomed,
We'll throw our siblings,
And our future children,
In jeopardy,
Not telling them the truth about these things.

Everything comes with a cost,
You can't have it all,
You can't manage it all,
No one ever has,
Kings and queens have failed themselves.

Presidents and ministers too,
Celebrities and influencers,
All these people in different fields.
Their ego has made them suffer a grave pain,
One that even their money and fame could never fill.

Their souls and spirits are empty,
Like the palm of your hand,
There's nothing,
They have so much on the outside,
Yet so little in the inside.

Choose wisely young man/woman,
Understand what you're getting yourself into,
Prepare yourself,
But preparation is futile.
For one cannot prepare themselves for what they are not yet familiar with,
It takes experience to prepare oneself.

Live life wisely,
Think deeply about your choices,
And the decisions,
Your stillness depends on it,
So go on.

Seek stillness,
Find it,
In yourself,
Listen more,
Speak less,
More when you're alone,
Become comfortable with aloneness.

Put your phone away,
Wake up to the silence of the morning,
Listen to the birds singing,
Listen to the chickens making a noise,
Pay attention to the sound of your own heartbeat,
Listen to it,
Very attentively.

Listen to the hands of the clock clapping together,
While moving slowly,
Think about those seconds passing by,
Spend them on these moments,
Observe everything around you,
Be connected to them,
Become one with them.

It is meditation,
Practice it every day,
When you get that chance to connect with silence,
Do it,
Take it,
Use it,
It also wants acknowledgement,
Acknowledge it,
It will also acknowledge you.

Your existence will soon start to matter,
It will make sense,
Things will begin to make sense,
There's beauty all around us.
We ignore it,
We neglect it,
Focused on things we're not even going to take to our grave with.

Titles that mean nothing,
Accomplishments that carry nothing,
Don't equate your life to nothingness,
Make it mean something beyond the human psyche.

See it beyond the stars and the galaxies,
See far and beyond,
It starts with realizing the stillness all around you,
Stop searching for you,
You already have you,
It always begins with you,
start now.

About this poem

This poem is about finding that inner peace and silence. Being connected to the moment, the now, being alive and aware of the present. Choosing to see the beauty in what you're doing or where you are in that moment. This is about peace and not being too attached to the materialistic world and its things. It's about being free from overthinking and owning the moment.
