Retained
The empty rooms feel emptier
and I wish I could have told you
but the more I can't feel your presence
the more I want to hold you
The days feel longer now,
now that I can't tell you what I wanted to
but the more I can't feel your presence
the more I need to hold you
Metaphorically I'm the grown up
but I will always be your child
and I still need you to know
I have loved you, I love you and I will always love you
but now that you aren't here I wish I could have told you
because now I can't feel your presence
and I really need to hold you
About this poem
The title is called retained because people tend to hide their affection towards there parents. I wrote this poem inspired by a story where a mother dies her son tries to tell her how he loved her but was too late. I imagined myself in such situation and wrote how I would feel.
