My own body

My body is a bare canvas
Hanging in this gallery called society
Filled with spectators
Each painting their own picture of me
Each redefining me
Each confining me to their own thoughts
Their own mindset

They all have a say
On how the canvas should look like
Except me
And I’ve become so used to everyone telling me
how I should look
how much I should eat
What I should wear
What I should be

So I will continue to hang on this wall
Like a sinner on a cross
And they will continue to smear me with their words
They will continue to paint me with their insults
Until I become bold enough
To paint my own picture
To own my own body.

About this poem

It’s basically talking about how society wants to be exactly how they choose. They want us, most especially women to act and live and look a certain way, they even dictate what to do with our bodies. And it’s time we take control of our own body. Because it’s ours and not theirs.
