My anxiety

Nikita fraser 1991 (South Africa)

Anxiety's got me chasing after my own stolen time
In the emergency room alone with flat lines
Alarm sounding reminding me they could see through my blue hands
Depression telling me lies like I'm better off not fighting but shaking the devils hand,

You see....

My anxiety isn't stupid
My depression not blind
My second guessing the blessing somehow
allows erosion in my mind
Watching the death of the clock
Chasing after my own stolen time
Could I ever get back the freedom rightfully mine,

Hospital sheets holding me like restraints
to the bed
Doctor seeing the anxiety overshadow
the heart has bled
A girl gifted with words can't write her own script
But brings life to hurt that once gave her birth,

Anxiety claimed victory but it was the very last time
Taking back the minutes and hours stolen behind
enemy lines
A soul once captured will grow stronger in the mind
Yet some how,
Still,
anxiety's got me chasing after my own stolen time

About this poem

I wrote this poem in the emergency after my body physically gave in to the effects of anxiety and my veins collapsed. This is how I felt.
