My African Child

They found us naked
“Uncivilised”, they called us.
They found us one with our creator, uMvelingqangi
“Jesus is the messiah”, they preached to us.
They found us praying on mountains
“Heathens”, they said.
They found us honouring our ancestors
“Demons”, they termed them.
They found us connected to nature
“Technology is the new way of life”, they told us.
They buried our wisdom, the same way the buried our forefathers that opposed them.
They had an upper hand yesterday, affecting how we think today but tomorrow belongs to us.

About this poem

Kuhle, I wrote this piece in 2019 and I strongly believe it was inspired by the teachings I receive from Imboni ubaba uZwilezwe regarding the restoration of African people to their indigenous ways of living and worship. I hope you enjoy it!✨✨
