Cats

Girl, alone in her room
Admires herself in the mirror for hours
She runs her finger over the hair on her legs
While sweeping, she usually comes out on the balcony,
Eearing a red bra or whatever coloured bra she wore that day
Clatter-fart can blow that there are several people together in the room.
(Although Clatter-fart likes to gossip about her character)
For instance, a picture of a friend drawn in a journal.
There are a couple more pages amidst these journal pages.
Someone has written and given the Anamika's-'Mausiya'.
In the trash can is a shell of empty coconut wrapped in polyethene.
Three days ago, somebody left it after drinking.
Dirty utensil from three days, empty sattu glass from about an hour before.
Sattu twice a day might be part of the diet.
Clatterfart can blow by staring at her routine at the age of 22,
Tell tales can reaveal a lot about this girl.
Blabber-mouths can blabber, her loneliness as unnecessarily grieving.

One day her friend was stunned to see her in a bra, picking up dirt and trash from the balcony,
Other time a boy was stunned when she outstretched his palm for the taste of salt.
Only in the room, the girl solitarily thinks.
About moments when she is around people,
These people are not scandalous, but even they are not ready for the unstrainedness of the moment,
These people are not alike and want to be lovers, but why do they make preasuumed concepts,
numerous emotional limitations.
As if to love is to fix chess bits,
They add on thing to the other and listen something different altogether,
She has been doing this for a long time,
And all went well too,
The turmoils were unstable but calculated.
Now she need not have to do this at all,
regardless of whether the world is ready.

She says nothing to that friend at once,
Just smiled at it and retreats her palm back.
Her list of essentials has all the time she.
She's still stuck in completing an incomplete cycle.
Some (a few) friends have given her their share of time,
She can also return some to her time to others as their share.

In her spare time, she muses about cats,
kids of the goat, and the buffalo snout as black-shiny rubber.
" Have heard lesbians keep cats." - a friend enquired.
The whole world should become lesbian then!
As loving a cat is to adopt her every mood with the same level of ease.
Without casting them in moulds of convenience,
As it is against the nature of cats.

There are thousands of myths about those
For whom people didn't spend their previous time,
As they felt they had little.
The list of their essentials is topped by Wars.
Victories and Heroes, the victory published in the newspaper with the statistics of war.
Intoxicated by victory, the hearts of warriors still quench for war.
So; preparing for the next.
Occupied in these deemed to be necessary and reasonable tasks, they forgot that there used to be a part of theirs,
Which in leisure used to run inflash after cats,
Who silently used to admire them gazing at the sky and flowing water from the tap,
Seeing the buffaloes, earlier the civilized ones and their children used to frown
At the mere sight of buffaloes.
Now being a warrior, they have forgotten their other part.
The possibilities of achieving something compelling.
Their identity from birth has not asked for any war.
And from the line, these people were not pushed back.
Children pushed abacj were the best friends of dogs, cats, goats, and cows.
Animals were equal shareholders of their settlements.
Who does not use to wear a bright neckband
or use to eat from colourful thick tin food cans with added taxes
If facilitated at par,
The people living in those settlement became their companions,
what could be their discomfort?
But few people have obliviated spending unnecessary time,
They spent it all in removing the rest,
From all the necessary places,
By branding them unnecessary.

They became a deity,
Gods do not have leisure time.
For the benefit of others, they write Leelas about their own life,
Always busy drafting new morals!

None of the gods will enter the girl's room,
To explain to her is to push their head in the mortar.
So, from a distance, they nod along with the 'sayers' -Yes in yes.
The girl does all the dirty dishes,
Fetches the gas cylinder to the fourth floor
and notes the rent in her monthly accounts diary.
At last, manages to save so much time again,
She stares at the pictures on the wall of ancestors, non-essential to history.
On the second, Some photographs of cats and palms.
Barons will enquire- "are these hands of the lesbian?"
She thought to say- "I don't know, those hands should be felt and kissed deep!"

About this poem

this is a poem where to say I depersonalised from it would be a lie to tell. It reflects the mainstream's fascination with war, the least efforts given to understand the nuances of human lives, the marginalised identifies and bodies. This poem is a documentation and mental journey of a person who wants to fall in unrestrained love in such times.
