Brain

Dear Brain,
It’s funny
This is you
making me write a poem
to you
But are we really separate?
The relationship between my identity
and your processes
is blurry
Sometimes, you control me
Sometimes, I control you
But, what makes you or me is not understood

You gave me everything I am
My thoughts
My words
My actions
Just you, and only you, gave me this
Just a three - pound organ within my body

A mass of infinite nervous tissue and electrical signals
Gave me life
I walk upon the Earth, through my life
Feeling the ground beneath my feet
Shaking with anger at injustice and inequality
Bubbling with frustration at degrading societal stigma and stereotypes
Striving to be better
Rejoicing in precious moments with friends and family
Learning to understand there is something more
These all came from you
Just a three - pound organ within my body

Precisely developed and crafted by the world around you
Constantly learning, analyzing, and adapting
Built to survive and thrive

One day, this will all be gone
within a deteriorated body
However, there are many others just like you
Striving to make the world a better place
Just a three - pound organ within my body
Thank you, Brain
