Chooch

Russell Anderson 1962 (San Bernardino)

My dog, Chooch
In his 15 years here
His name has had many incarnations

Chooch is a “Chi-Hound”
Chihuahua and Italian Greyhound
More like a Prince than a dog

It started with “Choo-Choo”
I found that kinda lame
A bit inane

So, I shortened that to “Chooch”
That one held
Although, I have often toyed with it

In times of creativity and goofiness
I have created an ad-lib sort of language
A doggy pig-latin

A call him Tooty, Tooty-mas
Choochy, Chooch-mas, Choochy-ma-chits
Choochy-mas-n-shits

Am I the only one who does this?
Is it a sign of borderline……something?
I suspect I am not the only one

One thing is for sure
When Chooch is gone-no time soon, I hope
There will be crying, wailing, and gnashing of teeth

About this poem

A poem, in free verse. Not so much about my dog, but about my wierd interactions with him, my made-up dog-affection language, and my attachment.
