SUPERANNUATION

Thirty-eight years of relentless walking
Filled with aroma of the verdure woods,
Lovely and exciting
And then one fine day
Being stopped and asked
To cool my heals!
At the end of the game of chess,
the king and the pawn
go into the same box,
so had some said.
Even a dead elephant is
Worth a lakh and a quarter,
Others commented.
I have been rested
But not retired.
Nor am I a fused bulb
At the end of my journey;
Lifeless, listless,
But a bulb still glowing
Which needs a new socket to fit in,
Yearning to be the beacon for others of ilk -
struggling, surviving
The everyday ordeals of life.
To show the path to the ones
Groping for the glimmer of hope in the dark.
Be the light switch, nay a new bulb -
For them to see and tread on to their path.
Giving them a ray of hope
In the days of gloom.
I am not done and dusted yet,
Just stopped over to catch my breath
And then move on
The roads untrod so far
At the crossroads
Of a second innings
Called life!
