(F.A.M.I.L.Y)

(F.A.M.I.L.Y)

Family should be a lot of things,
To make up for what other members lack.
Family should be things of positivity,
Like an ever-blooming forest of flowers.
Family should stand for more than one thing,
Blood is just a liquid like water.

‘F’ should be for faithful,
But now, putting faith in them means risking the air you breathe.
It’s as if begging to jump off the edge of a cliff.
With the thought of flying,
But not having wings.

‘A’ should represent authenticity,
Not about living up or comparing to others.
Authenticity means uniqueness,
For even future generations won’t live just the way yours did.
It is depth beyond intention.

‘M’ should stand for memorable,
Not for experiences you want to forget.
They only drive you further away,
Keeping you on edge, ready to leave.
Like nights where you get beaten,
Or days you can’t even speak or move,
Or moments where you’re forced to keep a straight face.
Those memories can change anyone’s future drastically.

‘I’ should be for indestructible,
The bonds that exist should be beyond the point of breaking,
Not on the verge of falling apart everyday.
Others should never be given power,
To turn members against each other.
We all know of the delicate balance,
That makes families stand apart.
Yet that delicate balance should be stronger than people’s traps.

‘L’ should represent love,
But now nothing is lacking more in families than that.
Love seems more like toleration and loathing.
Love lost so much more than just its languages,
Love has begun to lose its essence.
Beware, because this world isn’t one without love.

‘Y’ should stand for you,
You who are the outcasts, the black sheep.
They fail to understand
You are as essential as oxygen.
Family can’t survive without you,
Family isn’t family without you.

Family should have been a lot of things,
But now it’s less than nothing.
