Manipulating

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Manipulating continues to be,
A fascinating activity.
To observe and watch,
Those picked to submit...
Themselves voluntarily.
Without a question to ask,
About the task they are expected to perform.
And...
Going through a process,
Heard to hear them dismiss...
The doing is to dupe them.
To leave them tricked.

'Tricked?
We are not being duped, hoodwinked.
Or volunteering to be tricked.
We have been told and believe,
Our hundreds of dollars...
We have paid for this experience.
Is an investment that benefits,
Us and the entire community.'

Manipulating to conform,
To a duping performed.
Has become an everyday occurrence.
Normalized to disbelieve,
A look of innocence does not deceive.
And yet...
To observe and see a way of life speeding,
Downhill.
Will ultimately return,
Benefits from the experience all receive!
And...
Your expectations?

'A return of our investment.'

From who?
The ones who pushed you over the edge.
To hear them now calling you fools?

'We were told that could happen.
As part of the experience.
To test our tolerance and endurance.
That will strengthen our resolve.
With a determination to reach back to the top.
As those we hear call us fools,
Are encouraging to hope...
This we will do.
Just to test what it is we choose to do.'

And this,
You were told is a test to accept...
The proving of what?

'To prove to our community,
And others skeptical.
Our leadership abilities they will accept.
And be made convinced of it!'

I see.
To achieve the manipulating of them too!

'Huh?'

Some opinions to express,
Should be left to oneself.

'True.
Especially,
When people will choose to do...
Whatever who manipulates,
Their minds to do it best!'

Is that another opinion,
To express unsolicited.'

'I...uh...
Good luck.
With your efforts endeavored!'
