The Hole

There’s a hole in my soul
Nobody can fill but me
I tried to fill it with chips
And even tried sweet tea

I begged for attention
Even danced around the house
But the hole just widened
Only noticed by a mouse

I want to be told I’m pretty
And notice the things I’ve done
When others don’t do it
I pout and stop having fun

So I paused at the mirror
And studied the woman there
“Looks like it’s just me and you, kid”
As I brushed my dyed brown hair

“Who cares what someone else thinks
They do not pay my bills
Do  what you want just don’t expect”
And then the hole began to fill

About this poem

I’m a 68 year old widow that had to stop looking for others to fill the hole from the love I lost when my husband died.
