The Crunch

Dan Gudema 1965 (Manhattan)

Each time
we shake
the molecules
transfer atoms
take a leap
of faith
like a
trapeze artist
across the room
with the
large glass window
with the miami
cars passing
and the sounds passing
our sleeves
wetter than before
our eyes transfixed
while stomachs out
and toes crunched
downwards
in our black shoes
we lift them
but only for a moment
we wet our lips
but only for a moment
and then again
we consider the time
and we both lie
exaggerate the deal
exaggerate everything
home life
work
and say we will sign
next time.
