Sobriety and Drugs

Drugs, from illegal to government made.
"Sobriety".. pop another one to survive.
Don't resist, don't explain, they won't understand.
Have faith they said, live another day as I'm falling slowly.
Eyes on the prize; careful don't miss.
Steady, breathe, got it, finally.
The reward? Poor mental health, fear and hopelessness.
Better than drugs though huh?
As they prescribe another and another.
Dreams of death and nightmares of life.
Disappointment; I lie next to the definition.
I tell you that I do care, really I don't care.
I'm way to much.
Feel like the worst so I try to look like the best.
Russian rullet, six bullets; I'll go first.

About this poem

Hey, I'm a recovering drug addict and alcoholic who suffers with mental illness. This is something I wrote while hospitalized that really hits home every time I read it.
