Memory



I didn't say that.
The cow jumped over the moon!
I'd never say that.
Jack and Jill went up the hill!
The days you'd scream and cry.
Dashing thro' the snow!
You didn't like me.
You never liked me.
Starlight, star bright!
I'm holding on
With all the might you tried to take away
On the first day of Christmas!
I can see light up through the layer of ice.
I remember now!
Boys and girls come out to play
The moon doth shine as bright as day!
I remember now!

About this poem

Reflecting on childhood and memory this morning and the basics of the poem came to me. I proceed from there and, voila!

Michael Sharpe

I was first interested in poetry my junior year in high school when taking a required course in English lit. (Thanks Ms. Greene!) I wrote in a youthful fever - ha, ha! - for a few years, maybe 20 poems and some ok when I go back and nervously read them. But I stopped when the 'fires of youth' burned down but have started again slowly after doing a lot of reading from my extensive collection. more…
