Lost Girl

She asks questions but gets no answers,
Her heart is burdened with doubt and anxiety.
She walks through life-
Feeling her way round.
She sees no road ahead,
Nor feet on the ground,
For darkness surrounds her;
And tears line her eyelids.
The light is a glimmer that fades.
She remembers her mother saying;
‘Follow your heart, Mia.’
But if your heart is in a million fragments,
Which piece do you follow?
She will move on regardless,
Because sunlight flows in her veins,
And fire rages in her heart.

She falls in love very often,
With trees and sunsets and the moon,
She gazes at everything-
Detached and removed.
Her eyes glaze over with the beauty she beholds,
But she trusts nothing.
Not the sweet whispers from his lips,
Nor the coated apologies on her wax-sealed letters.
Not even the beautiful maple trees,
For they were not there a century before,
And would not last the next.
She knows one thing,
In her senses and in her sleep,
She will have to have her back-
For she will always be Alone.
