Lonely girl

Peters Itohan 2007 (Lagos)

Beaten and battered
She ran through the tracks
Running towards the light
She saw ahead of her
Her life was a disaster
And her whole world was coming to an end like a fallen roller coaster

Her pains increased
As she thought of all she had been through
She was born innocent but was forced to become evil
She was hated right from the day she came    into the world of the living
She was born among people who despised weaklings
And to them, she was another weakling, another burden
An obstacle that prevented them from progressing

Staring at her reflection in the water
She saw her eyes the source of her pains
They were dead and lacked every form of life
These black eyes that represented nothing but agony
She screamed in anger
As tears streamed down her face
She bit her lips while remembering her promise
She would never cry again

In her desperation to get rid of pain
She became someone she wasn't
She became a terrifying beast
One that was feared by many

She wept as she remembered all she did to become who she was
She had buried her heart, killed her feelings, and weakened her emotions
She became very cold and cruel
She shook her head trying to forget it all
She had done terrible things

She cried as the rain began to drizzle
Reminding her of her pains
She remembered the times she spent crying alone
Wishing there was someone to her pains away
But now she realized that she was alone
And she would have to find her way in this world on her own.
