In the Eyes of a Child

The sun kissed her freckled face
her shadow danced across the cement
and her hair tickled her little back
as neither here or there she went

The birds all chirped in unison
as she sung a lovely song
her gammies calling supper time
and all is right and nothing's wrong

The wind makes ripples in her dress
she grabs it by the hem
running wildly through open fields
capturing flowers by their stems

No worries or cares on little minds
especially when you are five
and she as free as the birds in the trees
her world is simple and kind

Do not bother this little girl
look at her and smile
her life is her own and all is right
let her laugh a while

About this poem

Remembering what it was like to be a child without a care in the world. Remembering what it felt like when we were completely our own.
