Greater Views

And when there is the road most esteemed
And after we’re given the advice (at times unsolicited)
And when we see the path with the largest crowd
Where shall our judgment take us?
And when passers-by tell us to ignore our discernment
And when some persuade us to walk one way
And when others walk merrily in a certain direction
Where is it that we wish to remain?
And when experience leads to dead-ends
Or our history renders us discouraged
With what choices are we left
When it’s clear the sun is about to set?
With all the voices and words assertive
There is the very least one could do:
To walk the road that pleases one’s soul
And leads to greater views

About this poem

This poem is about feeling lost in life. It's a reminder that rather than following the crowd, one ought to search within and introspect regarding making plans and goals for one's life.
