Gángàn-án and Sèkèrè: mixed identities of their tone.
Sèkèrè: always in a joyful mood.
Gángàn-án: for instruction, warning, celebration and sadness. A mixed feeling of identity in reincarnation.
I woke up on a Sunday morning planning to write down the beautiful culture of the Yoruba race and why Shekere is a symbol of joy and gángàn-án is a symbol of sadness and joy.
The mixed identity of the gángàn-án is such a great discovery. It was gángàn-án that narrated the nursery comic stories I read about death and reincarnation in the Yoruba culture.
The essence of gángàn-án while sending messages to the crowd, warning the people, giving instructions, coronating kings, celebrating victory and sending the dead to the abyss.
How dead relatives can resurfaced in another location
That could barely relay his ideas to people with muttered words. Gángàn-án would narrate his unspoken words with keen attention and expression.
This is like a song in funny stories and fables
Of our childhood days, that left us with laughter into the scary night with reverberating sounds of scary tone of gángàn-án.
Even as Sèkèrè calmed my heart at childhood with soothing sound, so it is in my growing days.
Sèkèrè, like the sounds of cymbals playing in the savanna center of ancient city of Ibadan, welcoming the warriors from war in victorious mood.
The epistle of my growing days.
The pun or price we pay for grief and love with gángàn-án on our shoulders announcing both the death and birth of life.
