Elsie, The Palace Witch

I’d like to live my life like
A slumbering chihuahua.
Subtle body against delicate bedding,
A novelty creature
In a beast’s world.

A fairy life,
Casting spells that sound like
growling, baying, yipping at dust in the daylight hours.

But as she sleeps,
As the household dozes and weeps,
She is once again just
A baby body of orange fur,
A tiny-pawed defender
Of her home castle.

A warrior one foot tall,
A slumbering doll,
A cherished monster of miniature proportions,
Antagonizing the neighbors,
Ruining plush carpets,
Pampered and cradled by a woman’s devotions.
