Beneath the Earth

Sophia Sandomire 2005 (Hawaii)

Beneath the earth, from whence you came,
Your worries fade to young, minute,
Once more returned to stake your claim.

Your body turns in restless state,
The gentle burn, your thoughts lay mute,
Beneath the earth, from whence you came.

The dirt invades to eat decay,
Your body rots beneath the roots,
Once more returned to stake your claim.

From up above, the time to blame,
From down below, end absolute,
Beneath the earth, from whence you came.

A baby born from earth’s great flame,
Carved skin and hair from dirt exudes,
At last returned to stake your claim.

In quiet storm, in light and rain,
At last you stop your once pursuit.
Beneath the earth, from whence you came,
Once more returned to stake your claim.
