Antidote To Sorrow

When time swiftly burns and life turns to blur,
Another shot of whiskey will help to forget what it’s worth.

On billboard ads and through word of mouth spew,
The alcohol drinks appear like magic cure.

They promise rich taste and a life full of haste,
A confidence injector cannot be a money waste!

As the first steps are taken through the doors of nightlife,
The stress of sobriety loses its smite.

The night bars’ aromas of ginger and lime,
Seem to suggest there is no looming plight.

Unpaid bills, unmourned deaths and unwanted thoughts,
What is their purpose if not to drown in this fog.

Why shall one face the sharp claws of their fate,
When alcohol’s haze clears out all the craze.

The bars stock gin, wine, rum, beer, whiskey, oh dear,
Personal issues already seem nowhere near!

At the bottoms of bottles, all sorrows find solace,
While the stomach is full and the mind — fully dull.

Through the sands of time the sober fools roam,
While on rivers of wine, alcoholics peacefully float.

They laugh at warped reflections of themselves in the river,
While the sober fools struggle in realising their purpose.

Yet one has to ask if floating the river is worth,
When the dread consumes the body once reality dawns.

Who seeks in alcohol an antidote to sorrow,
Shall quickly discover it brings no peace to tomorrow.
