Empathy Seekers

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

Seldom have I yet to hear,
If at all.
From anyone who has aged to grow older.
Claiming of nothing learned to have achieved.
Or have obtained to share,
The experience of it.
Besides aches and pains.
Medications taken.
With vapored ointments to use.

Although on a daily basis,
Empathy seekers appear as if from nowhere...
With wishes to want,
Their nonexistent endeavors...
To convince were made to face obstacles.
Purposely placed upon paths not taken.

But...
Who amongst us,
Can declare of being judge and jury?
Or professional opinion givers?
Since empathy seekers,
And not all.
May have valid reasons to create,
Obstacles they have faced.
Like...
Complaining some cakes are baked,
With a frosting applied they rather not taste.
Or a preference for sweet potato pie.
Over pumpkin.
While others come to face their obstacles,
With a desire to remove them.
Despite the thorns.
Or the horns of rushing bulls.
Or the hissing of venomous snakes.
Appearing from under rocks.
Disguised as saints bearing poisoned snacks.
You know...
Delicious homemade cookies.
Hot.
And too irresistible to refuse.

Watch out for those empathy seekers.
Toying with emotions.
Then...
To discover them running away.
Once a deal to believe sealed,
Has one to pay for a meal.
Hoping the expense to pay,
Gets breakfast in bed the next day.

'Sex, sex, sex!
Is it all about sex with you?'

Yes.
What were you expecting to hear?
A love I have for B.S.?!

'But...
You had me believing,
We were going to be discussing...
Empathy seekers.
And how to avoid them.'

Okay.
And we both have been successful at it.
Do you want it or not?

'Want?
Want what?
What are you talking about now?'

The courage to express urgent needs!
