The Burning Land

Smoke chokes people’s lungs,
Animals flee from fear,
Birds drop from the sky,
From above the sun disappears.

Forest fires rage through the west,
Pristine land is scorched.
Prolonged drought and heat are common now.
Our world is being torched.

Humans have caused this disaster
By ignoring nature’s clear signs.
Migration continues to these western lands.
The more people come, the more nature declines.

One day soon there will not be enough water
To quench the thirst of those who arrive.
Then their suburban dreams will be fractured,
As they and the land around them struggle to survive.
