A Pain No one Speaks Of
Ann Marie 1989 (New Hampshire)
No one dared talk about it
It was only the unknown
To feel it was to get hit
and to feel your guts get blown
A stigma in the zone of me
I wish I were out to sea
Though my time here would be brief
At least then I would be free.
The pain it coils inside
Sometimes it’s all I think of
and I have nothing beside
me as I’m on the brink of
Agony, insanity
No one wants to hear me speak
Of this, this calamity
Of which I am at the peak
Those little bits of respite
are so very dear to me
and I am very desperate
that I find them in my dreams.
We need to talk about it
Pain that cannot be buried
Every day, another hit
On and on builds the fury.
It’s time I tell this story
My heart is filled with worry
But now we must not quarry
I speak not for the glory.
We all have a tale to tell
some more painful than others
toss the coins into the well
and hold on to your mother.
Every day I tolerate
Never-ending pain within
If only I could abate
Have I committed a sin?
So, here is my tale for you
read it when you’re feeling blue
There is so much you can do
so don’t just sit there and brood.
Your pain does not define you
Even when it feels that way
Do not let your feelings stew
and slowly embrace the day
We’re all in this together.
