Next One Out

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

If you look around the world
Today, the fruit is over ripened
The grapes are rotting on the vine
And tensions have been heightened

The harvesters have gone on strike
There is no food to eat
And even what seemed sour once
Begins to look so sweet

Though death once seemed so far away
And caused all men to fear
The thought of it now looks so good
As many draws so near

I want to be the next one out
The game is almost over
I want to put aside this tent
And called rest in clover

Let God’s will be done and let His kingdom come!
