To succeed.

Elvirgo 2003 (Boksburg)

The drive to succeed
A distraction from the chaos
An illusion of greatness waiting ahead
The blurry road to rest
Running to the finish line
Unaware of the lights, love, and peace around.

The drive to succeed
Makes you forget the connections
Those around you cease to exist.
Winning the race,
Running through the dusty ways
Leaning towards fame
You forget the connections you're supposed to contain.
So that they remain.
With pure intentions
You forget that the dust will settle
As cliché as it may seem.
When all your dreams come true,
One look around, you'll see that it's only you.

The drive to succeed
You look away from who you are
You push down how you feel
And postpone the need to heal
You look at yourself thinking
Having money will be a great deal
Forgetting when the waves become shy
And the storm inside begins to rise
With all the best things the world has given,
You will still be alone, with your storm
Stuck in the walls of darkness,
With no way to go.

The drive to succeed
Find Love within.
Be cautious with your Peace.
Gain Enlightenment.
You will be happy and
Money? With no attachment
You will enjoy every part of it.

About this poem

It emphasizes the point of being present in life. And that focusing solely on chasing money will take the focus away from living life. And at the end of it all you might have the money but regret that you never got to do all the things that made you happy in your youth. Basically it's possible to die happy and wealthy. But just like everything else, we get to choose our destiny. So choose wisely.

I'm and 18 year old girl, that is only able to express how she feels through writing. I've always understood life in a different way. Some say it's too old for this age but I'm okay with it. So all there really is to know about me is that words mean more to me then actions. more…
