my masterpiece

My masterpiece was born in the attic
Of my heart
Amongst the presence of my most
Priceless possessions
No one would know of my work,
It would go unseen
The canvas in front of me
(Perfection: all I ever imagined)
Still wet from subtle brush strokes,
Reflects three years of dreams

I focused most on painting your eyes
Wanting them able to see through me
Down to my soul
Where I cherish you most…
To paint your body, I welcomed in doves,
For only their lines matched your peace
If there was anyway to sketch your touch
I borrowed a feather as well…
I took my time on the dark outlines
Of your lips, closing my eyes at times,
Feeling your warm breath mix with mine,
The tip of the brush I would fan
When I reached the stretch of your neck,
Making sure the movements mirrored
Your reaction to its kiss

For three years I painted
Going over and over you
Sometimes without paint
Just so I could relive the essence in your motion,
I know no other work, no other passion
It is you that I paint
It is you that I create

Endless nights my work stared into my soul
My only response was to keep painting
Endless nights your expression longed for me to answer
My only response was to keep painting
For in the back of my mind
I always knew I would never stop
In the back of my mind I thought
If I keep painting, you wouldn’t disappear

Countless hours have gone into my masterpiece
Each stroke telling me of you, and you of me
You stand there before me now
Three years in the making
Unable to be touched
Longing to be complete…
