Her Picture
Her picture shouts louder than ranting crowds marching against the deprivation of freedom, with heads and fists up high they declare their liberty draws nigh
That's why I won't let it speak for itself but I'll try my best to describe it myself
Her pose and posture resemble a throne
A queen in her Majesty will not be overthrown
Her shoulders fortified pillars of gold able to carry waterfalls of teardrops like a drowning woman carrying what breath she has - a shoulder to cry on
The sun's radiance falls shy to the incredible shine that is her face
Many who are in darkness meet her face and forget entirely what darkness even looks like, you can feel the warmth of it even with the coldest of hearts
For cold hearts melt like candle wax at the warmth of her façade
Her chin-up utters the boldness of a roaring lion in its territory - A king with absolute dominance and rule
From her chin looking up is her highly noticeable lips
Red as fiery rubies, season ripe raspberries
As if rose petals, most red fell on her lips and were merged with them
When her lips part, they let way to a mighty outpouring of words like poetry
Declarations of glory worth awe
Incense valued and collected by cherubim
Graciously put together by her anointed tongue
Empowered by her billion angels choir of vocal cords
I paused for what seemed centuries attempting to ponder words and phrases that would accurately describe her eyes
Piercing diamonds, refined and washed in the sight of a Holy God
They carry vision in them, a multigenerational dream - looking forward with purpose on purpose
Like stars hanging ever so majestic in the dark night, her eyes hang on her African skin
Her eyes could easily become pathways to a promise: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard"
She wears her rich dark hair like a crown for her obedience, "Well done, oh good and faithful servant"
Don't be deceived, she may look like she's trapped within the cage, behind its wires but I assure you, she is actually looking in from the outside, on green pastures
Like when her life seems to be stuck in one place but she is actually just waiting to take others along with her, she's helpful like that
Well, I guess I can now say that I've tried my best to describe her picture, imagine trying to describe her
About this poem
A picture of an African young lady described through poetry. I've known this young lady more than a year and a half now and her picture and this poem is but a glimpse of what she really is.
