Going away

Natalie George 1985 (South Africa)

My family are booking me away for a week,
Some quiet time and the sun I seek
To help me calm down and try to relax,
Because my stress levels are pushed to the max.
I'm so excited
How much more time?
To get away from this house of mine?
I've packed my bag
I'm ready to go,
So what if they are people I don't know?
I climb in the car
And it swallows me in,
I feel like I've finished a bottle of gin.
My head feels funny,
What's going on?
It's that voice in my head that goes on and on
I feel a bit shaky
And I'm starting to freeze
I open the window to feel the fresh breeze
As we pull up
I open my door
And all of a sudden, I fall to the floor.
I stand up proud
And pull my head out of this cloud.
Oh Nats please don't start thinking out loud
These people in coats
Walk up to the car
How do they know we've travelled so far?
With a smile on thier face
They pick up thier pace
And tell me about this wonderful place
They give me a jacket
How tight it felt
It's thick and white
And has a cute belt
They give me a tablet,
And as I swallow it down.
I look at the entrance
With a confusing frown,
Down the corridor we walk along
This little old lady is singing a song.
The walls are white,
And all the locked doors,
These are not proper tiles on the floors.
We get to my room
And deeply I breath,
I look in thier eyes
And I can see the grieve
I'm tired I say,
As they hugging me tight
Rest your head here just for tonight
Tomorrow you'll see
You'll feel better too,
Tomorrow you'll see
We'll come visit you.
I lay on my bed, with a tear on my cheek
As they close the door, softly I weep,
I close my eyes, and quietly say
All I want, is to just go away
My mind is tired, my body is sore
I feel like I've been ripped to my core
I'm lonely and troubled with voices in my head,
Only because of all the things that you said.
