Those Three Words

The meaning of words
Change over time,
That is what they say.
But I didn't know, it would scare me so,
With the fear I felt today.

Those three words
Once filled me up,
With lots of joy to spare.
Those words still managed to fill me up,
But this time with despair.

"Code Red Lockdown.
Lock your door."
We've done drills like this before.
The only difference is this isn't fake.
Some people won't see summer break.

I guess that is why it made me scared
When you texted out of the blue.
Those simple words I used to love.
Those words of "I love you."
