ELIM ALLIANCE
Karl Constantine FOLKES 1935 (Portland)
Enter all who seek His Love
Let Him prepare The Way
Into His house come sit
Make merry your thirsty soul
A kindly ear will listen
Lest you are troubled, friend
Let Him receive your plea
In prayer the Lord responds
Accept His Grace and Mercy
No soul that seeks the Lord
Can e’er be turned away
Each tender Heart He welcomes.
About this poem
Elim Alliance, located in the hamlet of Valley Cottage, New York, is the local evangelical church I’ve been attending since 1996, and where my wife serves as Music Ministry Director and I as Elder. This acrostic, two-stanza unrhymed poem was composed in February 2009 as a symbol of the open-door policy of this tiny community church to welcome visitors, and to embrace them into its fold, with prayer and with thanksgiving. Readers of this poem are asked to pay special attention to the use of uppercase letters in denoting certain nouns, especially that of “The Way,” as a means of calling attention to its historical theological significance since the first century of the Christian Era as a symbol of disciples, apostles, and all followers and believers of Jesus the Christ as Lord and Savior, invited to take up the challenge of the Christian pilgrim, by following, along with Christ as Paraclete, the road less taken in life, “the straight and narrow path. ” more »
